During the next six months, we will endeavour to intensify the co-operation in the field of drugs in Europe on the basis of the EU Drugs Strategy and Action Plan. Together with all of you, we will strive to achieve visible progress in tackling the drugs problem in Europe.

The Action Plans have been elaborated on the basis of Resolution of the Government of the Slovak Republic No. 289 of 15 April 2004 and Resolution of the National Council of the Slovak Republic No. 1072 of 25 June 2004. Their content and focus is based on the national drug policy strategy, which is represented by the National Programme for the Fight Against Drugs for 2005-2008.

This report provides an overview of trends in the abuse of the main types of illicit drug from 1998 to 2004, based on the expert opinions provided by Member States in their response to part II of the annual reports questionnaire (E/NR/2004/2). These reported trends are substantiated by epidemiological information available from studies and surveys carried out at the national level.
